How to use it
- Bring a picture: drop it on the page, paste it with Ctrl + V, or press Open image. No picture yet? Use the blank canvas in the Image tab.
- Type your top and bottom captions in the Text tab. Double-click a caption on the picture (double-tap on a phone) to type right on it.
- Drag a caption to move it. Pull the side handles to change the box width, the round handle to rotate, and the corner handle to resize.
- Press Download for a PNG, or switch to JPEG in the Export tab for a smaller file.
Tips
- The classic meme look is white Impact, uppercase, with a black outline. That is the starting style here.
- For the modern look, switch to Caption bar in the Image tab. It adds a band above the picture with dark text on it.
- Shrink to fit keeps a long caption inside the space of two lines by reducing the text size. Turn it off if you want the size to stay fixed.
- Captions snap to the centre lines while you drag. A pink guide shows when they lock on.
- Hard to read on a busy photo? Turn on Background for a solid bar behind each line, or add Shadow.
- Keyboard: arrow keys nudge the selected caption, Shift moves it further, Enter edits its text, Esc finishes, Delete removes it, Ctrl + D duplicates it, Ctrl + Z undoes and Ctrl + Shift + Z redoes.
- To crop, pick Free or a shape in the Image tab, drag the box and its corners, then press Crop. With the keyboard, arrow keys move the box, + and - resize it, Enter crops and Esc cancels.
- Captions stack in the order of the list in the Text tab. To front and To back move the selected one.
- On a phone, pinch with two fingers to resize the selected caption.
Questions
Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The picture is read and drawn by your browser on your own device. This page makes no network requests after it has loaded, so it keeps working if you go offline.
Is there a watermark?
No. The downloaded file contains your picture and your text, nothing else.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for.
What size is the download?
The same size as your picture. Very large pictures are scaled down so the longest side is 4096 pixels, which keeps phones from running out of memory. Blank canvases are 1080 pixels wide, or 1920 for 16:9.
What happens if I reload the page?
Your captions, settings and picture are kept in this browser and come back after a reload. They are stored on your device and are not sent anywhere. To remove the stored picture, untick Keep picture after reload in the Image tab, or press Start over.
Which fonts can I use?
Five styles that use fonts already on your device: Impact, a clean sans, a serif, a monospace and a rounded one. If your device has no Impact, a heavy sans stands in for it.
Are there meme templates?
No. You bring your own pictures, and you are responsible for having the right to use them.
